SAM Electronics at Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention
Hamburg, 26 February, 2008: SAM Electronics, an
L-3 Communications company, will feature its USCG type-approved
Multipilot 1100 multi-functional navigation system combining ARPA radar,
ECDIS, conning and automatic steering control functions. The company
will be located in Hall A, German Pavilion, Booth No 156-13.
Available as desktop or console versions and combining navigation and
collision avoidance operations within a single workstation, Multipilot 1100
provides a correlated view of planned and real situations for improved
effectiveness and safety of all navigational tasks. Systems typically also
form an integral part of SAM Electronics’ established series of NACOS
integrated navigation command systems featuring radar-controlled track-
keeping, which presently account for around 80% of world cruise liner
INS requirements.
With eight successful deliveries SAM Electronics enjoyed again notable
success in the cruise sector last year. As an example, Cunard’s
Fincantieri-built 90,000gt cruiseliner, Queen Victoria, was fitted with a
SAM Electronics’ NACOS 65-5 integrated navigation command system
featuring a radar-controlled trackpilot, Ecdis and other state-of-the-art
sensors. Designed to DNV NAUT AW and LR IBS standards and also
featuring high levels of system redundancy, the complete assembly
functionally integrates radar, Ecdis and autopilot operations. In a track
mode, planned routes and turn radii can be steered with an accuracy of
better than half the beam of own ship using precise position and speed
measurement sensors. An earlier NACOS model has been in service
aboard Cunard’s QE2 for a number of years.
Current users of NACOS systems include Carnival Cruise Lines,
Costa Crociere, AIDA Cruises, Cunard, NCL, MSC Cruises,
HurtigrutenGroup, Holland America, P&O Princess Cruises,
Radisson Seven Seas, and Star Cruises.
Besides the demonstration of turn-key solutions for complete electrical
systems, which has been proven in many different projects,
SAM Electronics will present its diesel-electric propulsion capabilities.
The operation and control of these systems ensure a high degree of
safety because of a redundant system layout and the unique design of the
SAM Electronics' frequency converters. With its successful concept, the
company is presently engaged in supplying configurations to cruise liners
ordered by Seabourn Cruises and Silversea Cruises and to tankers for
AHL Shipping as well as mega yachts, offshore and naval vessels worldwide.
